Privacy Policy

The short version

Your image is decoded and processed entirely in your browser. It is never uploaded to us. We do not receive the image, its file name, its metadata, or the image you download. The privacy and security page explains how this is enforced and how you can check it yourself.

What your browser downloads

To remove a background, the page downloads static files from this site: its scripts, the WebAssembly engine, and the AI model (about 176 MB, split into parts). These are ordinary file downloads. They carry no information about your image. So you do not download the model again on every visit, the page keeps its verified parts in your browser's Cache Storage for this site; they contain only the model, never your images, and you can remove them by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.

Hosting

The site is delivered as static files, plus one small server function that only receives the error reports described below, through a hosting and content-delivery provider, which processes standard technical request data (such as your IP address and user agent) to deliver and secure the site. That data does not contain your image.

Analytics and storage

Apart from the model parts described above, the site stores nothing in your browser: no cookies, no localStorage or sessionStorage, and no IndexedDB. It sends no analytics. Its code includes an analytics layer that could count the tool's steps (for example, the model download starting or a result being saved), but no analytics provider is attached, so it is inactive and sends nothing anywhere. If cookieless, aggregate analytics are switched on in the future, this policy will say so first, and they can only ever carry a few fixed words and numbers (such as graphics card or processor, PNG or JPG, the kind of background, the size preset, or how many images), never your image, its file name, or the color you pick.

Error reports

If the site's own code fails unexpectedly in your browser, or the background remover fails (for example, your browser runs out of memory, the graphics card cannot start the model, or the engine does not load), a small report is sent to this site's own address (/api/error, same origin) so we can fix the breakage. It contains only the error type and message, the script stack trace, the address of the script that failed with its line and column, the page path (never the query string or fragment), the page language, your browser's user-agent string, a timestamp, and the site's release version. For a failure of the background remover, the message is a fixed sentence naming the kind of failure, which engine was asked for (automatic, the graphics card, or the processor), the step it reached, and whether one image or a batch was running. A report never contains your image, its pixels, its file name or metadata, the cutout, the color you picked, or anything you typed. It is anonymous (no account, cookie, or identifier), always on, and capped at ten reports per page view. This site's server is set up to forward each report to our central error hub, which will store it in a Cloudflare D1 database tagged with the site it came from and delete it after 90 days. The hub is not running yet: until it is, and whenever it cannot be reached, a report goes only to this site's Cloudflare Worker log, which Cloudflare keeps for at most 7 days, and only if that log is switched on. Either way, a report is kept for at most 90 days.
